For parents
Polish School: is it worth it? Memories of our graduates.
"Emigration is not easy. Especially for a family with a school-age child. Especially difficult when your daughter is a year before her high school final exams. So many changes at one time. Add to this the global virus problem.
Matilda changed everything. A beloved home, a haven of safety. Friends and their daily support. School and language of instruction. Changing the teaching system.
We have been in England for a year. During this time, Matylda started studying at a British two-year school preparing her for the British Matura exam. New language, new objects, new people. Half of the year online due to lockdown. And the first important decision in life: I want to graduate from Polish high school and take the Polish high school leaving exam. It's a difficult decision, but whoever doesn't try won't know if it will work.
Two schools in one year. Two different teaching systems. In two languages.
The support was very much needed. You can find a lot on the Internet, but personal help in interpretation or choosing the right path of thinking requires the help of a specialist. We found such help and support at the School of Polish Language and Native Culture in Newcastle. The Director, a woman with great passion and also a mother, quickly understood what we meant. Mrs. Danuta, a teacher with extensive knowledge, experience and passion for imparting knowledge, came to help. Many hours spent on conversations, exercises and tasks. Despite the difficult communication situation (online classes), she rose to the challenge.
End result: Matylda took the exam in England, A-level Polish exam, with the highest grade!
We are extremely grateful for all the support, for the time devoted to Matylda, and for many hours of conversations
and the warmth with which we were welcomed. School of Polish Language and Native Culture in Newcastle, in the person of the Principal
and teachers, is not only a good teaching institution, but also does it with passion, commitment and dedication.
With warm regards
Joanna and Matylda
"I was a student at a Polish school for many years. I started when I was in primary school and graduated with an A-Level exam. Studying at a Polish school was interesting because not only did I learn Polish, but I also learned about Polish history. One of my favorites classes were history, because I learned a lot about Polish culture and Polish heroes, including: - Witold Pilecki, Sikorski, and Maria Curie Skłodowska. The Polish lessons were also great, I learned how to talk, write, read and listen in Polish. Polish. The School of Polish Language and Native Culture in Newcastle upon Tyne helped me achieve very high levels at GCSE and A-Level.
